I thought solar panels were delicate and made of glass?

Discard all your pre-conceptions about solar cells. With Solarpac think innovative, lightweight and flexible. Clear Blue Hawaii has collaborated with one of the only companies in the world who has managed to combine the extraordinary power of CIGS technology with durable and convenient materials. In contrast to standard panels, it is virtually impossible to break or damage our water resistant solar panel through regular use. The military origin of the Solarpac technology means that if a bullet were to pierce the panel it would still work, as energy would be drawn from the remaining independent cells.

What does CIGS mean?

The Acronym CIGS stands for Copper Indium Gallium Diselenide. This revolutionary technology is used by NASA and the military due to the ability of the panels to withstand significant physical punishment. Unlike other solar cell technology, CIGS is so advanced that it suffers very little deterioration in efficiency over time, an ability that recent scientific research uncovered was due to the fact that CIGS solar panels repair themselves!

Is Solarpac complicated to use?

Not in the slightest, it was made for practical every day use and that is how it works.

Can I use Solarpac near Water?

The modern water-resistant technology used by Solarpac means you need not worry about water splashing over your bag from the paddle of your Clear Blue Hawaii kayak, or an occasional rain shower in the Amazon.

The interior of Solarpac has been specially treated with a polyurethane coating which provides an excellent level of water resistance for the most active of lifestyles, although it could not be submerged underwater, it has been created to survive vigorous use.

Please note that although your Solarpac is water-resistant, the items you are charging may not be!

Do the solar panels require any maintenance?

Solarpac is intended to be totally user friendly in every respect, from the fit of the straps to the solar panel itself. It uses the same solar technology that is currently trusted by the armed forces; as such it can withhold the physical abuse expected as an everyday norm out in the field. Because Solarpac uses new CIGS technology, it is not necessary to perform any maintenance as the cells are extremely hard wearing and durable.

In order for the panels to perform at optimum levels, it is best to avoid obstructing sunlight from reaching the solar cells. If you accumulate dirt after climbing up the face of a cliff, or get covered in mud whilst mountain biking through forests, simply wipe any debris off by using a damp cloth. It's as easy as that.

How do I optimize the charge time?

For maximum power output, maintain contact with direct sunlight and ensure nothing is blocking sunlight from getting to the panel. Solarpac is still effective during low light levels or cloud cover, with charge times increasing depending on how restricted the solar exposure is.

Can I adapt Solarpac?

Due to the infinite uses for Solarpac, it was clear that we needed to create a product that could be altered easily. As the solar panels will fit as standard into any Clear Blue Hawaii Solarpac module, a variety of backpack options have been generated for our customers.

Whether you are going to the office, gym, or hiking, just select whichever bag module is suitable for that day and effortlessly switch the solar panel over.

For activities when all you need is a bag, and solar energy is not necessary, the solar panel can be removed from the casing and stored safely, although it is so light you probably won't bother! When extra energy is required, additional solar panels can be bought separately and daisy-chained together to provide even more electricity. By linking the power between solar panels, output can be increased by double or triple depending on the amount of modules daisy chained. The endless applications for Solarpac are truly staggering.

What are the average charge times?

Charge times depend on the size of your battery. At peak conditions the solarpac will operate at 475 milliamps per hour. So for example if your cell phone has a 500 milliamp battery it will charge in around 1 hour.

How can I speed things up?

For maximum power output, maintain contact with direct sunlight and ensure nothing is blocking the panel. Solarpac is still effective during low light levels or cloud cover, with charge times increasing depending on how restricted the solar exposure is.

What about charging bigger devices?

The high output of Solarpac has sufficient power to allow a direct charge for a large number of everyday personal electronic devices. Larger devices that require greater output, such as a laptop, can be charged with the use of an optional battery (see 'Battery Pack' for more information) or by daisy chaining multiple solar modules together.

How do I know my adaptor will work with Solarpac?

The Cigarette Lighter Adaptor (CLA) provided with solarpac means that a wide variety of devices can be accommodated by solarpac, one size fits all! Unlike some other products, Clear Blue Hawaii offers only the latest in portable electronic technology where there is no need for unnecessary adaptors for every make of device. Third party companies provide car adaptors for every imaginable application, meaning Solarpac users can benefit from unprecedented compatibility.

Can I charge my iPod?

Next time the music stops as you walk along the street, do not worry! Solarpac can charge your iPod, iPod Photo or iPod mini with the use of an iPod specific power tip. iPod Shuffle users can obtain a third party USB CLA that provides power from Solarpac via the Shuffle's USB port.

Why does Solarpac include a battery?

An optional battery provides further utility to the already versatile Solarpac. By using the most modern technology in our solar panels it is more than possible to charge directly from the solar cells to your device. But why stop there…the battery pack provides a capacious reservoir of supplemental energy for standard or larger devices that you can store and call upon whenever you want, an invaluable feature for dangerous journeys or night time conditions.

How much extra power does the battery pack provide?

The impressive features of Solarpac are not restricted to the exterior. Clear Blue Hawaii offers only the latest technology in portable, rechargeable batteries that provide backup power in addition to or in the absence of sunlight. Our battery features a staggering 6400-milliamp capacity, with the added usefulness of both DC and AC energy supply.

The battery pack can be replenished with solar energy, your car charger, or even mains electricity; presenting you a charging option for every conceivable situation. Depending on the device in use, one full charge of this remarkable battery can provide enough energy to take a cell phone from empty to full up to 9 times!

How do I charge the battery?

There are three options available that cover every situation facing a Solarpac user.

  1. By using the solar panel addition, the battery can be topped up using free solar energy whilst you are out exploring.
  2. Alternatively, the battery can be used as a power store that can be topped up using mains electricity from the home with the AC adaptor. This is a great advantage to the active traveler who knows that the weather will not be great the next day, but wants to take power with them.
  3. Finally, when driving along in a car to your destination, the optional battery can also be charged with the male CLA. With all these opportunities to take energy with you, we have ensured power for any circumstance.

Is there a way of knowing how much battery life is left?

Absolutely. The advanced nature of the additional battery available with Solarpac means that it is incredibly easy to know exactly how your battery is performing at the touch of a button. Located on the right hand side of the battery (when looking at the display) is a red button which when pressed automatically scrolls through a variety of power indicators such as voltage and remaining charge in percent.

What is the maximum voltage I can achieve with Solarpac?

The CLA adaptor regulates the voltage of Solarpac at 12 volts which protects your device by preventing any sudden fluctuations in the voltage from the solar panel caused by changing sun conditions.

What voltage does my device need?

More often than not it is very easy to find out what voltage your device uses by looking at the power adaptor, however even this basic task is taken care of by the Solarpac battery. It automatically detects the voltage required by your device, and adjusts itself accordingly.
